Heimlich Heroes™ Launches Giving Tuesday Campaign

Heimlich Heroes is excited to announce participation in this year’s #GivingTuesday – the global day of giving. It demonstrates the collective power of individuals, communities and organization—celebrating worldwide generosity. Following Thanksgiving and shopping events like #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday, this year’s #GivingTuesday takes place on November 27. The yearly event kicks off the giving season – inspiring people to give back.

#GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y, partnering with the United Nations Foundation. They launched a global movement that has engaged thousands of organizations worldwide.

Heimlich Heroes is a small, growing non-profit organization. And, relies on generous donations to support and continue its work. Since inception in 2013, the program has trained over 153,000 people. The training platform is specifically aimed at children. After participating in the training, kids are prepared to recognize and respond to a choking emergency with the proven Heimlich Maneuver®.

“Over the years I saved two school children from choking by using the Heimlich Maneuver,” says Terri Huntington, program manager. “Leading this critical life-saving program has been a perfect fit for me.” Huntington is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, has taught in both public and private schools and supervised in supplemental education for many years.

 Because You Give, People Live

This year’s campaign theme reinforces two central messages: 1) program knowledge and training can save lives in a choking emergency, and 2) the organization depends on donations, to continue making training available for everyone. A heart for service is core to the Heimlich Heroes’ story; we don’t want cost to be a obstacle for learning. This is especially true for schools struggling to make ends meet. Donor generosity provides for ongoing improvements. It also allows us to provide training materials for under served communities.

Heimlich Heroes relies on one-time gifts as well as ongoing and monthly donations. As a result, these gifts allow the program to grow, distribute knowledge and information, and make a difference. Every dollar counts, i.e. we put every dollar to work. Heimlich Heroes strives to expand materials, streamline user processes, and apply digital technology, thus eliminating additional barriers.

#GivingTuesday provides a perfect platform to promote Heimlich Heroes life-saving program and generate much-needed support and funds. To learn more and to donate please visit our website.
